High School Life Magazine opens our eyes to how enjoyable it is to be in the academe. High School Life Magazine is a Filipino online magazine which provides entertaining and educational articles. They do not just focus on the academics or the learning part of school, but also on health and social interactions within campus. On June 12, 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo declared the independence of the Filipinos and the birth of the Philippine Republic “under the protection of the mighty and humane North American Union.”

This momentous event took place in Cavite el Viejo (“Old Cavite”, now Kawit), Cavite Province. Admiral Dewey had been invited but did not attend.

The Filipino national flag was officially unfurled for the first time at 4:20 PM. The same flag was actually unfurled, albeit unofficially, on May 28, 1898 at the Teatro Caviteño in Cavite Nuevo - now Cavite City - right after the battle of Alapan, Imus, Cavite, and again three days later over the Spanish barracks at Binakayan, Cavite, after the Filipinos scored another victory.

Hello there! Congratulations for making it to your first year. Whether it’s making it “like a boss” or barely making it, what matters most is that you did. So give yourself a pat in the back for a job well done.

So, you’re in second year? Probably you’ve survived your qualifying exam or you have been resectioned and ranked according to your Accounting Average. I guess you’re pretty nervous and curious with what’s in store for you. Well, this is where the real accounting starts. You’ll be encountering the hardest Accounting of All, Financial Accounting.

Why is it hard? This is the foundation of all accounting subjects. Like I’ve said, Basic Accounting and Partnership Accounting is just an overview of the Accounting Cycle. Financial Accounting takes you to an in-depth journey of the line items in the different financial statements you will be making. Each line item has different treatments and assumptions. Due care and diligence should be practiced for you to make it out of second year in one piece. Financial Accounting is HARD. My advice? STUDY HARDER. By doing so, you have basically mastered the three board exam subjects — Practical Accounting 1, Theory of Accounts and Auditing Problems. Being able to master Financial Accounting is pretty much a very good indication that you’re doing well. Read and read the basic concepts and solve the illustrative problems. PRACTICE. Valix’s Practical Accounting 1 has a lot of problems where in you can solve, analyze and practice on. Invest most of your time in reading and solving Financial Accounting problems and you’re good.

Never ever, EVER memorize but familiarize, analyze and synthesize. Familiarize the concept, analyze every problem and treat it as a unique problem and synthesize what you’ve learned and never forget them. Always remember that.

Good luck on your sophomore year! You can do it!
